Computerized Museum Kiosks for Health Exhibit

Challenge

This project involved overhauling the software for several kiosks in a health exhibition wing at a science museum. The systems were old DOS systems that were constantly breaking and had old, outdated interfaces badly in need of updating.

The exhibits needed a facelift. They also needed to replace aging hardware with new parts to increase reliability.

Solution

We gave new LabVIEW GUIs to all the stations, installed new modern computers, and new DAQ hardware to increase reliability.

We upgraded several of the kiosks:
  • Blood Pressure - uses an electronic cuff to measure blood pressure
  • Height/Weight - featuring ultrasonic height measurement
  • Grip Strength - uses load cells to measure grip strength
  • Stepper - measures the pulse resting and after activity

Technical Details

A USB DAQ device was used to interface to the transducers. The software was created with Microsoft Visual C# .NET and LabVIEW.
